This poster connects the radical practices of transformative justice with Jewish teachings about teshuva, which means, “return”.

Pracitioners of transformative justice teach that much inter-personal harm is driven by state-imposed oppressions. They build inter-personal relationships and community ties to remake a just society. They reject punishment.

In Jewish tradition, the community asks one who did harm to return to good behavior by asking for forgiveness, reflecting deeply, and undergoing a profound change of heart. The whole community is responsible for the care of each person. Punishment is an obstacle to teshuva. No matter how atrocious the harm, or how often committed, it is always possible for the person who does harm to do teshuva.
